This rare Georgian coach house on a mews lane in Dublin 2 is of national importance. The design team recognised the need to retain
and conserve all the surviving features, particularly in their relation to form, profile and building line. We converted the mews building into a one-bedroom house with a sensitive single storey rear extension, which has been welcomed by the Planners and Conservation Officer at Dublin City Council. While protected structures are exempt from Building Energy Ratings, we strived to get this mews building to the highest energy level possible. The final result of an A2 rating is exceptional for protected structures and proves that with the correct applications and sensitive detailing, these older buildings can be future proofed for the next 250 years.
