Studio Negri Featured in The Journal x SEAI: Naas Home Energy Upgrade
Studio Negri has been featured in a Journal x SEAI video, showcasing a Home Energy Upgrade project completed in Naas, Co. Kildare. The feature highlights how a SEAI-registered One Stop Shop, working alongside our practice, helped transform a 1970s bungalow into a warmer, more efficient, and better-connected home.
The project brought together a full suite of energy upgrades. Triple-glazed windows replaced the original draughty units. External wall insulation and attic insulation were installed to reduce heat loss throughout the home. A heat pump now provides steady, consistent heating, while solar panels were added to the roof to generate renewable electricity. Together, these measures deliver a significant uplift in Building Energy Rating and a noticeable improvement in day-to-day comfort.
Beyond the technical upgrades, the project involved a considered architectural response to the existing structure. A contemporary rear extension, finished in dark standing-seam cladding, complements the original bungalow while creating additional living space and a stronger connection to the garden. Roof lights bring natural daylight into the new volume, and the result is a home that feels distinctly modern without losing its original character.
This project reflects Studio Negri's broader focus on home retrofit and renewable energy integration. While our practice is well known for its work with protected structures and traditional buildings, our expertise extends to any existing home ready for modernisation. Whether a building is a Georgian townhouse, a stone cottage, or a mid-century bungalow like this one, the same principles apply: understand the existing fabric, design an upgrade strategy that fits the building, and integrate renewable technologies without compromising comfort or character.
Working within the SEAI One Stop Shop framework brings clear benefits for homeowners. Grants are deducted upfront from the cost of works, project management is handled from start to finish, and a registered BER assessor confirms the final result. For families considering a complete home energy upgrade, this route offers a streamlined path from initial assessment to a warmer, more efficient home.
