This semi-detached house is in a prominent location on the corner of Hudson and Adelaide Road in Glasthule, Co. Dublin. The gable end of the house had exposed service pipes and a small window to the bathroom.

 

The re-design and deep retrofit involved a new orientation for the living rooms on the gable end with a side courtyard and sympathetic massing leading onto the Georgian terraced houses of Adelaide Road.

 

The master bedroom was included in the attic conversion with glazing on the gable wall making a statement feature.

 

The Building Energy Rating of A2 will be increased in future with the addition of solar panels, requiring a very low heating and energy demand, as it approaches passive house EnerPHit standards.
